Gorky Park (Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure) is located in the heart of Kazan and occupies an area of 1 hectare. As early as the second half of the 17th century, wealthy people of Kazan began to build villas on the outskirts of the region. At the time, the place was called the Russian Switzerland. And today it is a favorite rest area of citizens.
The Memorial area with an Eternal Flame and memorable composition is located in front of the park.
In 2014, the park was reconstructed: two bridges were built over the ravine, 1000 trees were planted, and the central avenue was decorated with several dozens of flower beds, lights, and 62 benches made in one style. You may not only sit on the benches, but on the green lawn as well. A sports area was built in the new park for enthusiasts of outdoor activities and fitness. Here you can play futsal and work out on the modern exercise machines. The best feature of the renewed park is an interactive fountain. It works all day long to music and in the evening illuminated water jets dance to the songs. In the near future there is also a plan to have a playground, rental store, extreme park, as well as direct access, with ramps and paths, to the Kazanka River bank.
