The Kazan Academic Russian Drama Theater named after V.I.Kachalov is located in the city center on pedestrian street, Baumana St. It is one of the oldest theaters in Russia, dating back to 1791. In 1948, it was named after the People's Artist of the USSR, Vasily Kachalov, who started his career here, and in 1996 it was deemed academic. The theater`s Great Hall has been reconstructed and designed for 505 people. It has a unique small stage with a transformable auditorium. The theater’s repertoire is based on the best works of Russian classics, world classics, and contemporary drama.
The theater presents performances on a tour, holds festival activities, and it is the winner of many national and international awards.
