The Ak Mechet (the White Mosque) was created to inspire. With its pristine white walls, it competes with the pure thoughts of saints, and as far as its beauty, it may contend with the famous Taj Mahal.
It was built in 2012, not far from the entrance to Bolgar. The grandeur and scale of this structures attract visitors irrespective of their faith.
The best constructions of Islamic architecture around the world served as models for constructing this mosque. The prayer room, framed by an elegant arcade of 88 eastern columns, allows one to have visual contact with nature and archaeological excavations of the ancient city of Bolgar. The spires of the minarets staring into the sky, the huge, main dome with skillfully built stained-glass windows, and the white buildings intended for the clergy constitute the whole ensemble of this grand complex. On the territory, a lake was constructed with a fountain in the middle. This body of water reflects the entire White Mosque. Inside, the prayer hall is surrounded by tall columns with crescents, and the walls of the mosque are decorated with verses from the Koran.
