The ground floor of the main building houses an exhibition dedicated to the establishment of Sviyazhsk, its natural environment, and the development of the city during the first centuries of its existence (16th-17th centuries). The exhibits on the second floor recount the history of the county town of Sviyazhsk in the 18th through the early 20th centuries, including its population, employment, management structure, educational institutions, church lands, and economy. The first service building presents the exposition telling about Sviyazhsky county, county lines of communication, postal service, and the county medicine. The former prison building contains a model of a prison cell, and this interior was recreated according to its condition in the late 19th century. The second service building on the first floor houses the excursion service and a classroom to work with children, and the second floor is occupied by an exhibition hall for hosting exhibitions on the history of Sviyazhsk.
