The festival’s highlight is the book fair which attracts the participation of dozens of large and small Russian publishing houses which sell modern and classical, political, scientific, science fiction, non-fiction and childrens literature at wholesale prices. The event held at ‘Chernoye Ozero’ is complemented by a large-scale educational events schedule which features lectures, discussions, theatrical family master classes, tours, quests in the park, a musical concert and theatrical productions. This year, lectures will be presented by New York University’s computer sciences Professor Lev Manovich, general director of the ‘Alpina Non-Fiction’ publishing house Pavel Podkosov, the leader of the book project ‘Polka’ Yuri Saprykin and other famous speakers. The festival is organized by the centre of modern culture ‘Smena’, the Directorate of Parks and Squares of Kazan and the ‘Living City’ Foundation with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Program for the Development of Public Spaces of the Republic of Tatarstan and the City Hall of Kazan.
