Monument Philanthropist

Right near the Kazan Kremlin, there is a bronze sculpture of an elderly man in work clothes and a traditional Tatar ‘tubeteyka’ headpiece. He leads a horse and cart with happy children sitting in it. Some spend long hours looking at the joyful children here, but one thing immediately catches your eye: how well, calm and peaceful they all seem under the care of Asgat-babay. The inspiration behind this man is the Kazan philanthropist Asgat Galimzyanov, who dedicated his life to helping orphanages, as well as those affected by the Chernobyl disaster. The initiative to establish Asgat Galimzyanov's monument was put forward by the first president of the Republic of Tatarstan, Mintimer Shaimiev. He paid for the construction of this monument out of his own pocket, and the project was completed by Tatarstan sculptors under the guidance of Honoured Art Worker of Tatarstan - Asia Minnullina. The sculpture stands right on the pavement without any pedestal, which makes the composition seem very life-like.
