Peterburgskaya Street
One of the most beautiful streets of the city in the historical centre of Kazan runs diagonally through the city centre from Ploschad Tukaya (Tukay Square) to Nazarbayev Street. The street was reconstructed with the support of the St Petersburg city council in time for the 1,000th anniversary of Kazan. It is almost two kilometres in length and some parts of it are only accessible for pedestrians. Peterburgskaya Street has been designed to include elements of the cultural capital of Russia it is named after such as bridges, railings and paving patterns of the pedestrian lanes, all symbolizing the St Petersburg canals and rotundas as an ode to the city which erected the Kazan Cathedral on their main street. The street begins with a monument to Lev Gumilev and ends with the Walk of Fame with an exposition of historical trams and a memorable bas-relief.
