Chatyr-Tau ("Marquee-Mountain") is one of the highest points of Tatarstan - 321.7 metres above sea level. According to popular belief, a magnet is hidden inside the mountain, and the water that flows from the mountain springs is considered to be healing and sacred. Many rare plants cover the slopes of the mountain – some of which are unfortunately nearing extinction. The Chatyr-Tau also happens to have the largest colony of marmots in Tatarstan - over 7,000 in total. This place is especially popular among tourists and sportspeople. If you visit here, be sure to look up: paragliders and other types of adrenaline seekers can often be spotted in the skies above the mountain.
