Nadezhda Durova Estate Museum
It is virtually by miracle that the city preserved the estate of the first half of the 19th century, in which Nadezhda Durova – a hero of the 1812 Patriotic War spent the last years of her life. This woman was one of the most colourful figures of Russian history, and lived in Yelabuga from 1831 to 1866.
The museum comprises of just five rooms; each of them acquaints visitors with Nadezhda Durova’s environment during her time living here, and uncovers hidden secrets behind her heroic biography and amazing life. To keep the memory of the legendary cavalry-maiden alive, during commemorative anniversary dates, re-enactments of the 1812 war battles as well as glamorous balls of the epoch of Alexander I are held in the city.
