Museum of Sviyazhsk History
Spanning over four buildings built in 1838-1840, this is one of the key parts of the greater Sviyazhsk museum complex. An exhibition dedicated to the founding of Sviyazhsk, its natural surroundings and the development of the city during the first centuries of its existence (16th-17th centuries) is located in the main building. Other exhibits showcase the history of the district town between 18th-early 20th centuries: its population, management structure, educational institutions, church land ownership and economy. Many visitors are extremely fascinated and attract to the building of the former prison, where you can witness a recreated interior of a typical prison cell of the late 19th century. You can also find out more about Sviyazhsk’s local ways of communication, postal service and medicine from the adjoining exhibitions inside the building. Be sure to book a tour around the museum if you’d like to find out more about Sviyazhsk and its history, and if you happen to come here with children, they too will find something to do in the children's room located in the museum’s second service building.
