The Galiaskar Kamal Tatar Academic Theatre is located on the shore of Lake Kaban, not far from the Old Tatar Quarter . The building of the theatre resembles a sailboat floating on the waters’ surface. Inside, there is a large and small auditorium for performances of varying audience sizes. Every seat is equipped with a headphone jack through which you can listen to the translation of performances in Russian or English. The smaller hall is regularly used to showcase uniquely modern experimental performances. The theatre’s date of birth is considered to be December 22, 1906. It was on this day when the theatre hosted its first public performance in Tatar language. Today the theatre is considered one of the best national theatres in Russia, and is a very popular destination among visiting tourists from Turkic speaking countries, Germany and Finland.
