Tatar State Opera & Ballet Theatre named after Musa Dzhalil

One of the largest musical theatres in Russia is located in the centre of Kazan on Ploschad Svobody. The facade and interiors are designed in the style of neoclassicism and combine classical forms with Tatar national ornaments. The theatre underwent reconstruction in 2005, and today the staged performances are made complete with complex state-of-the-art set designs and lighting effects. Every year leading up to the New Year holidays, the theatre puts on festive events for children. The theatre also annually hosts two large-scale international festivals: the opera festival, dedicated to the singer Feodor Chaliapin, and the ballet festival, which bears the name of the world-famous artist Rudolf Nureyev.
